About Us

AWA FM is the only Māori language radio station in the Whanganui region, giving you the chance to listen, experience and participate in Whanganui reo and Whanganui culture.

Proudly broadcasting since 1991 our people have been sharing our language and our stories on Whanganui 100 FM, Ruapehu 91FM, Taumarunui 93.5FM. Our shows cater for whanau, Māori and pākeha alike, in our region.

Listen in for your daily Whanganui reo fix, waiata and news from our rohe. Download the Whare Kōrero App for free and see you favourite AWA FM hosts and their interviews.

Our licence holder is Ngā Tangata Tiaki o Whanganui and together we are Te Reo Irirangi o Whanganui Incorporated trading as AWA FM. AWA FM is governed by a board of trustees who must whakapapa to Whanganui. Racquel McKenzie is our chairwoman. Her fellow board members are Whetu Moataane, Kylee Osborne and Nancy Tuaine.

Manahi Cribb is the Poumua he leads the content strategy and guides the work of the Kaipāpaho for AWA FM. The station is currently looking for a Poumuri to lead the back office support required to ensure the station meets its financial and legal obligations.
