Ngā Mōteatea: The Songs – Part One
Tino ataahua tēnei. The newly reprinted edition of Ngā Mōteatea: The Songs is a stunning re-issue of the historical, four-volume collection of mōteatea. Gathered over 40 years by Apirana Ngata, with translations and notes by Pei Te Hurinui Jones (Vols 1-3) and Hirini Moko Mead (Vol 4), Volume One is a living archive of whakapapa, tribal history and language, preserving oral tradition and the depth, beauty and mātauranga carried in waiata.

This is an heirloom taonga for every generation that includes audio recordings of many of the waiata from the University of Auckland’s Archive of Māori and Pacific Music. It is available individually or in the four-volume set (with a 20% discount), accompanied by an equally beautiful introductory book Ngā Mōteatea: An Introduction / He Kupu Arataki.
